| Changes in NoteBook 3.1 |
10/25/2011 |
- NoteBook now supports syncing of Notebooks via Dropbox. Please read the Dropbox chapter in NoteBook for iPad’s user guide for complete information on this feature.
- The keyboard accessory area now contains four “accessory” buttons and an Option button. The Option button cycles the accessory buttons through four sets of characters/functions: arrow keys, “parens,” punctuation, and Greek characters. Press the Option button while tapping a left or right arrow button to move one word in that direction. In Greek mode, touch and hold a Greek character button to see a palette of additional characters (the parens and punctuation modes work similarly). Note: NoteBook inserts Greek characters from the font Times New Roman, but it does not change the font you’re typing in.
- Added a Duplicate command to the outline item Editing menu.
- You can now delete documents from the Documents pane of the Insert popover (via the trash can button in the upper right corner).
- You can now rename documents in the Documents pane of the Insert popover.
- The My Notebooks screen now includes a directory strip that lets you jump to the first Notebook that begins with a particular letter.
- Added a Duplicate button to the My Notebooks screen.
- In Draw mode, sketching with a finger or stylus now creates smooth curves. This smoothing applies to all existing sketches created prior to this update.
- When a page is zoomed such that its content can be panned left or right, you previously had to unzoom the page in order to use a swipe gesture to turn the page. Now, a swipe gesture pans the page unless there is no more page to pan in that direction, in which case it turns the page. This is similar to how the Photos app lets you pan a zoomed photo but still swipe to switch to the next or previous photo.
- Updated the NoteBook user guide.
- Fixed a bug that caused pages to sometimes appear black.
- Worked around a problem where page display would sometimes go into a loop that forced NoteBook to quit.
- Fixed a bug where if you had bold text, say, in a line of plain text, and selected the bold text and typed, the new text would be plain instead of bold.
- Fixed a bug where in two-page display, with Contents on left and another page on right, if you changed the name of the page on the right the Contents page on the left would still display the old name.
- Fixed a bug where the left/right pages in landscape were sometimes not correctly restored the next time the Notebook was opened.
- Fixed a bug where in two-page display, with Contents on left and another page on right, and the sides linked so that tapping a page in Contents loaded that page on the right, after dragging the shadow so that the Contents page filled the screen, tapping a page did not make the page appear in place of Contents.
- Hopefully fixed the problem of dates in the date column showing “tomorrow” when they should show “today.”
- Fixed a bug where a Notebook could be opened in draw mode with the cover page, in which case draw mode could not be exited and the cover page could not be dismissed.
- Fixed a crasher in paste style.
- Fixed a crasher with releasing ruler markers after dragging them.
- Fixed a bug where if you edited text and then tapped in another item, the ruler would show the ruler settings for the item as a whole, not the location of the insertion point, and moving a marker in the ruler would end editing.
- Fixed a bug in the positioning of ruler markers when the selected item included an attachment that was pinned flush-left.
- Fixed a bug with how NoteBook saved the location of the first line indent when writing out RTF text.
- Moving the next line indent marker in the ruler no longer changes the position of the first line indent marker.
- NoteBook now coalesces undo actions when you drag your finger in the color chooser or drag a ruler marker.
- Fixed a bug where a black band would sometimes appear in the magnifier when you pressed on a ruler marker.
- Fixed a crasher with text entry.
- Worked around a problem with pasting text from other apps like Safari in iOS5.
- Fixed a problem where panes in the Add popover would not appear right after revealing the popover on iOS5.
- Fixed a bug where showing the ruler would sometimes scroll the page down when it did not need to.
- Fixed a bug where in landscape and editing text that does not fit within the horizontal margins, the text would scroll horizontally to an apparently arbitrary position after making a selection or a change.
- Fixed a bug where if you edit text in portrait, then rotate to landscape with two pages visible and end editing, the other page would have a black band at the top.
- The Divide command now no longer ends editing, leaves the second cell with leading whitespace, or scrolls the page to an awkward location.
- Fixed a bug where the Shape Template would not update the Focus on Shapes button title when you turned the page.
- Fixed crashers with the Inspectors.
- Fixed a problem with the Paper Style Inspector where it wouldn’t show correct information when inspecting a Notebook in My Notebooks.
- Fixed a problem where in two page display if you deleted a page on the left the page number field on the right would not update to reflect that page’s new page number.
- Fixed a crasher when tapping on a page without touching an outline item.
- When editing text the Editing menu now contains a Replace submenu of commands that replace the current selection with uppercase, lowercase, or titlecase equivalents.
- Fixed a problem under iOS 5 where if you undocked and split the onscreen keyboard and then attached a Bluetooth keyboard, the accessory area attached to the onscreen keyboard would obscure your typing.
- Fixed a bug where if you locked the device while editing text, and had an insertion point, the insertion point would not blink after unlocking the device.
- Fixed a bug where TextExpander substitutions would sometimes be partially replaced with the original text after resuming typing.
- Fixed a bug where if editing text changed the line spacing, the text of the item being editing would not line up with the paper lines.
- When you double-tap at the end of a line of text, NoteBook now places the insertion point at the end of the line of text (previously it selected the last word).
- The zoom gesture now cancels itself if more than two fingers are used, and now correctly restores the original scale factor on cancel. This addresses the issue of the four- and five-finger Apple gestures triggering NoteBook’s scale gesture.
- Fixed a problem that would sometimes cause the Undo button to become unresponsive to taps.
- Fixed a problem where selection rectangles for lines in a paragraph would sometimes overlap to produce thin darker lines.
- Fixed a bug where double-tapping the ruler to create a new tab marker placed the marker too far to the right based on the page’s scale factor.
- Fixed a bug where the +/- rotation buttons in the Shape inspector did not work.
- You can now undo in Draw mode. Note that you can’t undo past your first drawing action while in draw mode (but you can again once you exit drawing mode).
- A two-finger tap on an outline item now selects the item and brings up the Editing menu.
- Removed the text “jitter” that occurred during and after editing text.
- If a Notebook’s default font does not exist on the iPad, NoteBook now falls back on the default NoteBook font set in NoteBook App Preferences.
- Fixed a bug where when dragging an outline item with children thin lines would sometimes appear between the child items.
- If deleting a text selection would leave a sequence of two spaces, or a line that begins with a space, or a space in front of punctuation, NoteBook now deletes the extra space.
- Fixed a bug where when adding a document from the Documents pane, if you tapped the option to cancel the operation the document would get added anyway.
- If you add a folder to NoteBook via file sharing in iTunes, the content of the folder now appears in the Documents pane (rather than the folder itself).
- Fixed a bug where if you erased the beginning of a sketch, the remainder would sometimes appear darker.
- NoteBook now falls back on a Notebook’s default font rather than the iOS system font when a font within a Notebook is not available.
- Fixed a problem where if the page was set to pan (i.e. scaled to be larger than the width of the screen) and you dragged a finger to pan the page, if your finger landed on a shape sometimes the shape would move instead.
- Fixed a problem where if you intended to use the pinch gesture to scale the page and your fingers landed on one or more shapes, one of the shapes would sometimes scale instead.
- To scale a shape you must now first tap it to select it before placing two fingers inside and applying the pinch gesture (previously you could pinch an unselected shape and scale it).
- Fixed a problem where if you selected a shape and started a gesture to work with it, sometimes the gesture would apply to another overlapping or underlapping shape.
- NoteBook now does a better job drawing the dots between page names and numbers on Divider pages.
- NoteBook prevents renaming Notebooks to names containing the slash (“/”) or colon (“:”) characters.
- Fixed a bug where hardware keyboard shortcuts such as cut and paste only worked while the Editing menu was visible.
- Fixed a bug where outline items would sometimes not correctly size their height during editing.
- FIxed a bug where if the ruler is visible and the page scrolled all the way to the top, a black band would sometimes appear in the thumbnail of the Notebook when switching to MyNotebooks.
- Fixed a bug where if you had mixed-attribute text selected (a potion normal, and another portion bold, say), when you tapped the bold button in the ruler the unbolded text would become bold but the bolded text would unbold. Now, tapping the bold button makes the entire selection bold, and tapping it again unbolds it.

| Changes in NoteBook 3.0.9 |
5/1/2011 |
- NoteBook now supports TextExpander.
- If you zip a Notebook and add it to NoteBook via the File Sharing section of the Apps pane in iTunes, NoteBook will replace the .zip file with an uncompressed copy of the Notebook the next time you visit the My Notebooks screen. With this feature, Windows users who also use NoteBook for iPad can copy their Notebooks from iTunes on Windows and restore them by zipping them before adding them back to iTunes (the Windows version of iTunes does not recognize file packages, upon which NoteBook documents are based).
