Note: If you purchased NoteBook from the Mac App Store, the very latest NoteBook update may not be available to you because Apple has not approved it.

Note: If you purchased NoteBook from the Circus Ponies Online Store, NoteBook’s Check for a New Version command may not report the very latest version available, but you can always download it from the downloads page.

Note: Because of bug in Mac OS X Lion it is not currently possible to clip PDFs from the Print sheet to a Notebook page. Apple is aware of the issue and says they hope to address it in a future OS X update.

Changes in NoteBook 3.1.2 2/16/2012

  • The Ink toolbar item menu now contains a command to turn off stroke smoothing, so that mouse and stylus strokes appear as they did before 3.1.
  • When you tap the ink toolbar item to cycle through the pen modes, and the next mode is handwriting recognition, you will now only see one warning about handwriting recognition being turned off.
  • Fixed a bug where NoteBook would throw exceptions if you Reverted a Notebook while editing an item.
  • Fixed a bug with voice annotation when running NoteBook in Japanese.
  • Fixed a problem where NoteBook would sometimes take a noticeable amount of time to start up if you have a lot of clipping services.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented resizing of sticky notes and flags.
  • Fixed a bug where the Delete command in the contextual menu that appeared when you Control-clicked an attachment did not delete the attachment in a Writing page, or sometimes deleted the attachment’s outline item.

Changes in NoteBook 3.1.1 11/22/2011

  • Changed the What’s New In NoteBook menu item to refer to NoteBook 3 rather than NoteBook 3.0.
  • When you drag a sticky from the toolbar it begins editing once you release it.
  • Fixed a bug with rendering sketches on the Mac.
  • When entering due dates you can again type “t” (or the first letter of the word “today” in your language) to get today’s date.
  • Fixed a problem where the outline’s right margin was too small when the scrollbar was not visible on Lion.

  • Fixed a problem where dates in date column would sometimes appear as “tomorrow” when they should show “today”.
  • NoteBook now detects when an open Notebook has been modified externally (such as by the Dropbox service) and reloads the Notebook or, if the open copy has unsaved changes, asks first before reloading.
  • Cmd-T now hides the Font panel if it’s visible.
  • Fixed a bug related to pressing the Option key.

  • Improved error recovery when looking up contact information in AddressBook for contact stickers. The best way to add contacts to a Notebook is by dragging them from Address Book rather than by dragging vcards into a Notebook (the latter method is not guaranteed to succeed, even though it might appear to at first).
  • Fixed a bug where table row heights would be too large if a numbering style was assigned to the table header row.
  • Fixed a bug where using the stylus eraser to erase a scribble would sometimes fail.
  • Fixed a bug where creation, change and due date sorting ignored the time associated with items.
  • Fixed a bug where the inspector would sometimes fail to update when the page’s outline selection changed.

  • Fixed a bug related to how NoteBook unarchives fonts, colors, and other properties in certain cases.
  • Fixed a bug where NoteBook had trouble saving Notebooks in certain cases where text strings used a shadow text property. Note that Notebooks containing shadowed text will not open properly on iPad until this change also appears in the iPad version (with the 3.0.3 iPad update).

Changes in NoteBook 3.0.1 (v450)

  • Fixed a bug with how NoteBook saves font and color information in certain situations. This fix modifies the NoteBook file format slightly, but enough that Notebooks saved in v450 or higher on Mac can only be opened in v450 or higher on iPad (and vice versa). Earlier versions of NoteBook will fail to open these documents. iPad users – please upgrade to the latest version of NoteBook for iPad, available from the App Store.

  • Fixed a bug where empty text shapes would generate errors during website export.

  • The Favorites section of the Sticker contextual menu has been moved to the start of the menu, before the section that lists the Stickers present in the current Notebook.
  • Fixed a crasher related to closing a Notebook with visible sticky notes and then waking the computer from sleep or changing monitors.
  • Fixed a bug where pages in a separate window would sometimes grow slightly in size when a Notebook was reopened.
  • If you double-click to create a new text note and then end editing without changing it, NoteBook removes the empty text note.
  • You can now choose the color of the Contents Card font, using the Contents Card font box in preferences, and the Notebook Inspector for each Notebook.

  • Added the Edit -> Paste -> Paste Above command, which pastes cells on the clipboard above the currently-selected cell.
  • Renamed Edit -> Paste -> Paste Text as Plain Text to Edit -> Paste -> Paste and Match Style, and changed the keyboard shortcut to Shift-Option-Cmd V to match Apple app convention.
  • Fixed a bug where if you copied a text link URL (a link created by dragging a file to a Notebook with NoteBook set to create text links for attachments) and then pasted to a Note page without an insertion point, the link pasted as if it came from Safari.

  • Fixed a bug where lines were always drawn beneath shapes in a NoteBook-generated website.

  • PDFs added to the shape layer no longer have their shadow turned on.

  • Select All no longer selects a page’s background shape.

  • Fixed a long-standing bug where if you asked NoteBook to perform an action after website exporting such as opening the website in a browser window, that action would only occur the first time you exported and never subsequently.

It turns out the Notebook window was not set to display sticky notes, so the sticky notes are present, just not visible. Choosing View -> Stickies and Flags and then saving fixes the problem.
  • Made a change that should fix the problem of sticky notes sometimes not staying permanently removed after dragging them away from their page. If you have a Notebook that exhibits this problem, the ghost sticky notes may reappear one more time, but dragging them from their page and saving should remove them for good.
  • Fixed a bug where removing a sticky note would not unindex it.
  • Fixed a bug where shapes and sticky notes were not included in a rebuild of the Multidex.
